Support the development of the Ronald Reagan Equestrian Campground in Malibu Creek State Park
We are working on a campaign to raise about $3 million to assist California State Parks to develop the campground. There is a County Park Bond proposed for the ballot in November and currently we are working to get the campground included as a line item on the bond if it goes forward. This would secure additional funding for the development of the campground. We need you to sign our petition and send a letter of support to make this happen!

The campground is planned to be located on property that was previously owned by President Ronald Reagan. President Reagan was an avid and accomplished horseman and in 1957 he built a ranch in Agoura called Yearling Row, where he raised Arabian horses. He also built a cross-country course on the ranch, and some remnants of the jumps still remain today. That property is now part of Malibu Creek State Park.
The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is over 150,000 acres with more than 500 miles of scenic trails. These trails are amazing and spectacular for horseback riding. Unfortunately, there is no public horse campground in the Santa Monica Mountains that is easily accessible to the public.
The RREC would be the first public equestrian campground that is easy to access and would deliver outstanding opportunities for equestrians to enjoy this gorgeous public land. Equestrians will be able to drive in to campsites that are equipped with corrals, parking for trailers, and typical camping amenities. What could be better than waking up in the morning and getting out on the trail right from your campsite?
Both California State Parks and the National Park Service are fully supportive of the campground. This facility will be an invaluable asset for all visitors to the Santa Monica Mountains, and it will help preserve the equestrian lifestyle that we cherish.
